I remember reading somewhere that the second hdd can be used to speed up things in photoshop. had something to do with memory i believe. Anyone know how to do it?

My fonts are 'appearing' abit slow and i actually had a couple 'not enough memory' msgs on my 2gb DDR2 667 machine..

Thanks

Yup,

Go to Edit > preferences > Plug-Ins & Scratch Disks and select a disk with a lot of free space as first disk. then a second third etc depending on how many you have. i believe PS uses about 4 times as much disk space as the file is big and if you don;t specify it will use C:

extra note: if you are in CS3 they have changed the tab, it's no longer under "plug-ins and scratch discs" there's a new section called "performance"

If I remember correctly from previous versions, they basically combined the last two options (scratchdiscs & memory usage) into one tab.

The Photoshop scratch disc needs to be moved to a different physical disk than your Windows pagefile. Moving it to a different partition will do you no good.

How many fonts do you have installed? A lot? Adobe will tell you that uninstalling fonts that you do not use is a good way to speed things up. Also, cut down on the number of history states. Lastly, you can increase the percentage of system RAM available to Photoshop.
