Gattomanzo
Mapril is my favorite month too. I've been banned from the MWL forum without warning, like in the good old days Cheers to all, especially to all the lost maxwellian souls all around why were you banned for? BTW, i've stopped teaching Maxwell in my classes when the "big trouble" started...
Adehus
Welcome to the club, u.biq. NL couldn't possibly do a better job of ruining their credibility and damaging whatever shreds of integrity they (might) have left... it's going to have to bite them in the a$$ in a big way sooner or later. I think eventually we'll see full-license Maxwell CDs shrinkwrapped into CG magazines like I've seen with InfiniD and Strata.
Fran
Stephane, are you sure you're banned? Did you try deleting your cookies and then logging in? Or when you log in, does it tell you?
Ernest Burden III
NextLimit wrote me to say they have un-banned AdamT, so I accepted the offer. Sometimes progress is made in small steps.

u.biq
"Critical Information" "You have been banned from this forum. Please contact the webmaster or board administrator for more information." No doubt, i think, don't you? I'm a new banned guy, Ernest "why were you banned for?" I've been trolling a little, but has never unsulted anybody. A few days ago, I have just replied in a serious thread i'd initiated several weeks before, entitled 'top five features wishes'. At each feature that 2 guys were wishing, i've answered "Sorry, fry feature" and had ending by a sentence like "here at least you have an answer". Wasn't that funny? Devin Johnston
I can see why they banned you although I don't agree that it was the right thing to do, there are better ways to deal with negative commentary. For what ever reason NL has implemented the policy that any negative talk about Maxwell will result in banning. I would think though that they would have warned you before they did it but it's their board and they can do what they want.

Fran
That pretty much left you in no doubt Stephane. They must really be out of their comfort zone to ban you for what amounts to little more than a mild prank.

ClaudeFerret
I saw u.big's post that initiated the boot. The post wasn't bad enough to warrant a ban in my opinion. I thought the post was funny, especially the replies of the faithful that followed. u.big really stirred them up

Adehus
Couple of Mapril questions/thoughts: -Nicole is saying that the license policy is being revised. Will this just affect new users or will they send out new licenses to all current users? I normally wouldn't think to ask such a question, but when it comes to NL how can you not?! -Nicole's also saying that NL will be seeking permission from everyone for imagery used for promotion (ie NL's gallery, newsletters, manuals, etc.) Does anyone else find it funny that Mike Verta was basically calling everyone idiots for caring about having control over how their work is used (on the same thread, before Nicole intervened). -Looks like NL is *trying* to make a lot of changes in an attempt to appease a restless customer base. I think it's worth noting that this has come about due to a sustained expression of discontentment coupled with a legitimate alternative that users could opt for in lieu of Maxwell. With the increasing popularity of Fryrender, Next Limit is now at the mercy of the market forces that effect all other software developers. I think it's valuable to realize this and to also to reflect on the fact that NL has mercilessly taken advantage of not having any competition previously. The customers are finally in a position of equal footing. I would encourage you all to use it to your advantage, and to the advantage of MWR users as a whole. Devin Johnston
It could be that there trying to become more competitive, but it could also be that there attempting to garner some good will before the V1.2 release. From what I've read people aren't going to be very happy with this one if the only changes are just minor bug fixes and some network rendering improvements. Adehus
but it could also be that there attempting to garner some good will before the V1.2 release. Interesting point. If 1.2 is a major disappointment, things are going to be un-fun for NL.
Fran
I think they are trying to garner good will period. Regardless of their motives, take it for what it is. I think it would be unrealistic to expect major core enhancements or feature additions for a 0.1+ point release - even after 10 months (?) since the last 0.1+ point release. So, there will be a faction of the customer base that likely will be majorly disappointed. Regarding the image useage, on the rare occasion that they used any of my images, they sought permission. Regarding the license policy, why wait 2 weeks? Unless they have not decided on a policy yet, or somehow feel that it is a good thing to build user anticipation. Like that's ever worked. Ernest Burden III
Does anyone else find it funny that Mike Verta was basically calling everyone idiots for caring about having control over how their work is used (on the same thread, before Nicole intervened). Mike took it upon himself to re-master the Star Wars movies--or re-sequence, something like that. The guy's got interesting ways of looking at things. If NextLimit is trying to improve themselves then good for them. Better late than never.
Adehus
If NextLimit is trying to improve themselves then good for them. Better late than never. No doubt about it, and hope it continues. But, if it doesn't continue, I think it's good to keep in mind that our opinions and actions have a greater impact on NL than they ever have before.
