Problem Reloading a File Linked DWG

Just got viz 2008 and noticed that when I reloaded a linked drawing my materials where replaced by a global architectural material. In one scene it was every material, in another scene it was just one material.

I have tried various combinations of checking and unchecking 'Use scene material definitions' and 'Use scene material assignments on Reload' but nothing helped.

I tried the new UNC file paths and local file paths check boxes under preferences--still no change.

Any ideas? Is there something new that I'm missing?

hey Ray

welcome To The Club, Club Gizmo

it seems That Autodisk changed The default reload setting To The exact setting

That Totally screws up everything upon reloading The scene into VIZ and/or MAX

what a bunch of dumbf#cks

i always Thought That all of This intentional (if it is not intentional Then it is incompetence) methods of screwing up something That actually already really worked was just a marketing ploy To get people To upgrade To max, which i did i got ADT2007 and Max9 and (i should have known better, but) i was Totally shocked when THIS DID NOT WORK either, o hell. The fn FLM is Totally broken (and for several versions now Too)

The ONLY rational explanation why This is occuring is

1. underage space aliens now control The R&D at Autodisk and actually write The Code without adult supervision

2. some foreign country now owns Autodisk and is doing a massively online psycho wack Test on all of us end-users

3. Totaly incompetence (did i already mention This????)

4. acutally it may be just all of The above

5. = offspring of illegal space aliens have landed in a foreign country, and bought Autodisk (bad decision on Their part) and The programmers dont drink enough coffee

i wish i was joking

but i have seen a steady decline in other Autodisk products, That used To work well, only To have The functionality removed in The following version

Think autocad r13 and autocadr14 plotting specifically, it is now so bad That anytime That you do a plot it will come up with a setting THAT WONT WORK THE very NEXT TIME That you Try To do another PLOT

That sux, but i guess i need To readjust my expectations of Autodisk products lower

been using autocad since '88, been using VIZ since release 2

just got The Autocad Architecture 2008, The software formerly known as ADT and hoping That This fn FLM mess gets fixed up someday soon, (hopfully in This life Time)

not sure if any of This helps, but The File Link is a definate problem

i get The same error and i have NEVER used The setting That They say

is The default screwed-up setting

This isnt The 1st Time That Autodisk set Their default settings To something That doesnt work

ok The software aint That all That bad, anything written by a human has got To have logic flaws and its own limitations. but when you use it day in and day out and just a few operations dont work well, The very options That are critical To getting your work done (of course)

Then it gets aggravating

Randy

maybe i should drink some beer before breakfast, hey Alfie!

It would be nice if they changed one of there default settings that we were comfortable with (albeit unknowingly) that they would tell us! I don't remember reading that in new features.
