sutaih
I want to load a high res HDRI into my scene but I keep getting a memory error. How do I solve this?
Tim Saunders
I know that problem. Not just when you render, but when you even try to load the map, it tells you there isn't enough memory. Sinse I don't do image based lighting, and only use the image for the reflections, I find if I'm dead set on using a particular image, I re-size the image and save it as a jpeg. I get the reflections I want from the environment map. If you're using the for lighting, I have tried resizing images to very low quality and got even better results than the hirez HDRI did. However, I think I am missing some key steps to IBL, because it never ends up looking good for me. So, I just quit fussin with it.
sutaih
At the end of the day, all I did was resize the HDRI and it worked just fine. I was worried that I would lose quality by downsizing the HDRI by half but it didn't seem to matter. Does anyone know of any other HDRI tutorials? I've used the tutorial by Paco Morales and it's amazing! But there has to be others out there...
