Villa Savoye model

Hi -

This is my first time using this forum - my professor told our class to use it. I'm a complete newbie at architecture, and am modeling Villa Savoye by Le Corbusier in AutoCAD. I'm trying to figure out how to model the ramp and the staircase, and it is going slowly and nowhere. I tried to look at it in Viz, but Viz is really confusing and not helping too much, since I don't know it all that well. Any help would be superly appreciated!

thanks-

Hi there,

villa savoye is not much difficult to make if you use 3d Max try to use loft for the ramp or customized polgonedit tools and for railing you can use renderable splines.

see you later and Shubh ratri (Good Night)!

that's funny - i was going to have my class model that building this year, but i find the barcelona pavilion is a bit easier for beginners.

i think with experience you will learn there is always more than one way to model things. in this situation and with your skill set, i would concentrate on extruding solids (whether in plan or in section/elevation).

the staircase has curved treads, correct ? if you can create closed polylines around the boundaries of each tread in plan, it shouldn't be difficult to crate solids from these and move them in the Z axis (eg. 7",14",21"....). if you have autocad 2007, the new PRESSPULL feature for creating solids would make this task easier.

as far as the ramp goes, i think it is two long straight flights. if you have a section through it, i would use the same process (extruding solids) but now you would be extruding the width of the ramp (in section).

i hope some of this makes sense. you could also use 3D faces for the ramp, if you have the floor slabs and landing defined, but with faces you have no real thickness, just planar surfaces.

best of luck

you can do it in straight easy way (asumming that you're fully modeling it)

-a box+scale copying inwards (to give walls thickness).

-converting this box to an editable mesh & go on +ve,-ve extruding to do windows.

-the cylindrical coloumns (I wont tell you :p )

-as for the inner staircase you can use the standerds of max or viz & some FDD4X4X4 , youre done.

more interior details ?

or whatever you are working with

i've got about 40,000 hours doing autocad,

but not Too much free Time at The moment
