Moving and looking ahead

In the next few years we are going to move. Problem is we haven't decided where. Right now we are looking at Portland OR. My wife may be able to get a transfer with her company and I love the NW but I have been thinking about joining up somewhere. When Tim posted his Studio AMD job posting I really started seeing clearly that I was thinking about working at a studio and not having my own company. There are a lot of reasons for this and one of them is I want to be able to play with a wider range of toys. A while ago I was talking with someone who works in SF and he was talking about having a green screen studio and renting helicopters and I saw that there is so much that I cannot do. I cannot compete and there is a point where my skills may just become old hat.

 

And living expenses here in our part of Cali are pretty hard. Looking at real estate in Oregon and the prices were less than half what we have here. So what I am looking at is everything but we want to move. Just not sure where or when. Where are the good places to move to? Seems like most of the firms I have heard about are on the east coast. Are there very many on the west?
