ChooChoo
I think I already know the answer to this, but just maybe... I use Revit for my modeling and it has parametric abilities built in for windows, doors, etc. I can have, for example, the entire Anderson Windows size collection in one file. If I need to have a different size, I don't need to remodel, just change the width and height parameters. So I was wondering if this can be accomplished in Max. I know there is a parametric window and door in Max, but it's the style that I would like to change. Meaning grids, no drids, half grids, profiles, etc and so on. ChooChoo
I guess that would be no?
only3d
im not sure i got what u meant, but if parametric windows u r looking for then yes there are most definitly there (not a big fan but they exist) theyre called AEC objects and u can change all the parameters u asked about, but if you want to create a "style" that u can save and use again & again then the answer is no.. (well at least to my knowledge). from my experience u can create quite nice objects but not nearly as elaborate or user-freindly as 'archicad' for example. (no door knobs for instance..! ) thats it my freind, hope this helps
Koper
the AEC objects are gr8, if you know how to use them, and after you created an object you can just save selected' and merge it into an objects file so that you don't have to re-create every time, then the next time merge your objects file into you scene and re-use them. also another cool thing is that you get and AEC material for any particular object, this material is only a multisub-object material so you don't need to assign new IDs
Vince Paske
Max's aec objects are not parametric in the sense that if you change the size of a door or window, the wall it is in will adjust to acomodate the new size like in Revit. There is no association/intelligence between geometry and data like schedules you find in Revit.
ChooChoo
That's kind of what I thought it would be. That's too bad. Thanks for the replies everyone.
Quique
My experience has been that when an AEC window/door is linked to an AEC wall, an automatic 'subtract' Boolean operation occurs. So if you do change the size of the window/door, the opening in the wall will adjust. Unfortunately, you get funny effects when simply translating (moving) a linked window/door.
