Hey Bob I used to model in Archicad being a ex architect and i can tell you once you get used to modelling in max its a whole lot quicker, more intuitive and fun than archicad. Just gotta jump in! Its worth it.

I actually do all my modelling in max.......know absolutely nothing about modelling in archicad. Good to know though.

ahhh, ok, i see what your getting at now. well, i dont really have much in the way of portfolio worthy work, most of the things i have been doing up r done purely for playing with different lighting, texturing, layout, etc... situations, so i guess its more a matter of trying to find the time to sit down, go thru what i have and what i can do and then trying to find the time to get it done.

we need more hrs in the day, or just long weekends and do it then. :D

Dont worry too much about that at this stage. When I got to London I had only been doing 3D for a couple of years. My portfolio was OK but now way near the standard of work for the jobs I was applying for. However when I eventually landed a job it turned out to be my dream one. Much later did my boss tell me why he hired me. He saw potential in what I was showing and could see what I was trying to portay, albeit technically poor.

The gamble to take me on payed off for both of us. I learned a hell of alot and they got some of my best work I have ever done.

If you are able to instill you passion into your work, someone will see that and be able to over look the technical faults. Which to me is far more important than getting the settings right.

Wow, thats some very cool advice, thanks heaps Justin, and everyone else.

So does that mean i can continue doing my sunrise/sunset and evening shots??? Its just that ive been trying to get more creative with my lighting and creating some different moods rather then just the standard midday bright blue sky sunny shots, which i know 99% of work ill end up doing will be this, but for the sake of fun and creativity i thought it would be cool.

No one here where i work thinks that way tho, not even some of the 3d ppl.

Hi there....

ermm... I'm another 3d visualiser coming out of the woodwork here in Melbourne. I did architecture at uni. and have 8+ years experience in high end 3d work as well as the usual boring SK and DD work... I've just moved to one of Melbourne's largest architectural firms and wouldn't mind joining anyone for lunch and a beer....

Anto.

National conference huh? sounds like a good excuse to me to take a day or 3 off work to go attend the first annual "Aussie 3D Vis Lunch and Beer Day".

first thing on agenda - meet everyone, have a beer together, ice breaker.

next - first lecture, could be boring, so beer suplied,

lunch - food and beer

next lecture - more beverages will be provided.

beer-o-clock

then knock off time. haha :p now THATS a day at work!

i wonder who we could talk to about all this to see if we really could kick start something?

lol - it is indeed a small world! I didn't even think about the Brizzie office....

Have you been down lately? It's expanding like nuts!!.....

I used to work in a small, specialist high end rendering firm of 3 ppl and the move to 180 was a bit of a shock to the system...
