3DEXTRUDE
Does anyone here know a site that offers dvd tutorials on how to model and get a finished render in 3ds max, or maya from autocad files? If there is no site that offers that, i think it would be a really great thing if somoene on those tutorial sites would get someone to do a tutorial like that. It would help a lot of young architects and modelers on this issue. Unless they all want to keep those things to themselves, which i dont believe its the case. So i wonder why there is nothing out there for a tutorial like this? I think a lot of new architetects and cad artists would want to get their hands on a material like that... Ernest Burden III
Have you read the 3D-Insider series here at CGA? Those are Max-based. While Gnomon Workshop is mostly about VFX work, they might have some useful training materials. And now VisMasters is offering on-line training. Maybe that could be good for you, maybe they have DVDs as well. I haven't looked very closely.
AFK_Matrix
If you search the internet there are loads of helpful tutorials mate. Also don't know if I can put this site on here but 3D Buzz has some very good tutorials too.
MAGANGLO
Hi The tutorials which come with 3ds max are pretty good I find a really effective way of getting autocad models into max is to open the model in Microstation which reads dxf or dwg and then export each layer as an STL file from microstation - this works by exporting whatever objects onscreen are selected, you have lots of control over the geommetry, faceting etc.... You can then assign material, lights etc...in Max and render away
