dmctavish
Alright I am brand new at 3D Studio and VRay. I have been trying to piece together this steel detail. It is sort of an exploded detail. I am using a VRay light. The shadows seem kinda off and I am not sure what to do for the materials. The top of the floor panels needs to be rubber or something and the rest of the panels metal. Any help is appreciated.
AJLynn
You can make the shadows a bit better by increasing the Vraylight's samples. Also, the size of the Vraylight influences shadow softness - larger light, softer shadows. I'd make the light a bit smaller. As for materials, try a bump map on the rubber, and if the steel's supposed to be painted red, the normal color for that is more like this. If you want those small parts to be shinier, you could put alternating white and black pieces behind the camera where they'll be seen in reflection - the contrast in reflection is important. dmctavish
Thanks for your help. I changed the paint colour as best i could. I am not sure what you mean "alternating white and black pieces behind the camera where they'll be seen in reflection ". Could you elaborate. Also attached is the updated image and a new one I need to do as well. Thanks again.
andreg
i'd throw a VrayHDRI map in the environment reflection slot maybe that will help with the reflections
