vray materialID

Here's what I do:

* figure out all the different materials I want to use on that particular model/object (like - a room. So, floor, ceiling, wall1, wall2, wall3, wall4, trim, glass)

* write them down, with the material id #

* go to material editor (M), STANDARD button, VRayMtl, multi/sub-object, then label my materials. You don't have to pick them yet, but it gives them a label. Add an extra material and label it LEFTOVER

* I use the ELEMENT pick tool, get all the faces selected, then switch to FACE

* scroll down the rollouts until I get Material ID

* I then assign all of the faces to an unused LEFTOVER material

* now - all the faces have a non-standard material id. No way to mix anything up. Then just go through and pick the faces for the various materials and when you select their ID #, it'll have what it's labeled as. I find that helps me.

Kind of a newbie tip, but just thought I'd share it.

is that material id same as we get in multi subobject material

.i am not getting

how can i use multisubobject material in vraymaterial?

Here is a mini-video tutorial on how it might be done.

I recorded it at a fairly high resolution and lowered it to 1024x768.

Hopefully it's clear enough.

It should 'stream', so there should not be a delay in downloading to view it.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

thanks very much for putting such a effort

but my problem is when i do this much and push render button vray mtlid comes black

Does it behave that way with only one scene? Or with anything you try to render?

If it's just the one scene, maybe the file is corrupt.

If it behaves that way with everything, I'd guess either the file (.3ds) is corrupt or there is something wrong with the v-ray installation on your computer.

Try doing a new scene and see if it behaves the same way.

Try switching from v-ray to scanland and back to v-ray.

I'm new to v-ray, so I don't have a lot of experience to draw upon.

Good luck
