dazz_downunder
Hi all, Does anyone know of some decent tutorials or tips for modelling, texuring etc etc for roads & footpaths. I just cant seem to get it rght. I have a animation to do soon of a street running into a "court". 4 new residential dwellings at the end of the court. I really would love to get this right. And just how do you get that nice tire wearing on the asphalt road. I have tried a number of times in photoshop but I'm missing something, doing something wrong. Any tips or suggestions ? alfienoakes
Good call daryl.. Its tricky getting those right. Would be interested to see that as well. One thing I always try and do with roads, is pay attention to the kerbs, the road markings etc.. making sure they are all modeled properly. I usually model the road markings from mass elements in ADT.. Doesn't matter how you do it, as long as they are there, and look right.
Claudio Branch
Daryl, the headache you are experiencing is one that I covered extensively in a post named "Street Texture Mapping"...use the search function of this site, enter the post name and hit go. The post I participated in should come up 2nd on the list. Most of my visualization work is in civil engineering (roads, dams, bridges, etc) and I model terrain extensively. I use a specific set of tools and a time-tested workflow. If you (or anyone else reading this) find yourself doing alot of sitework, then you might want to augment your toolset to improve your workflow. Hope this helps.
