Help with a DWG to DXF conversion?

I'm trying to convert a 3d .DWG file to a 3d format that I can use in Lightwave or Modo.

 

I am able to preview the file in a CAD browser. I've tried to convert the file to DXF with a freeware app but the results aren't good:

 

I am on a Mac at work but I have a PC at home. I do not own AutoCAD.

 

Hopefully someone can suggest something. Recommended apps or workarounds?

i'm sure there's numerous kind souls in this forum that do the conversion for you nice and simple if you post up the dwg file my friend

I'm nervous to post it online because it's a client's work, but I could email it. It's a little over 5 megs though.

 

I did contact my brother who has AutoCAD but when he saved it as a DXF, the file looked exactly the same as above.

 

Is DXF the only 3d file format that can be exported from CAD? I seem to remember receiving a 3DS file from a firm several years ago.

i'll do the conversion for you, if you tell me where on earth you would build such a place...what is it ?

 

i'm not sure what format works in lightwave, so maybe you could email it to me and let me know.

It's a historic building that we are covering in an infographic.

 

If you are able to receive a 5 meg file, I can send it to you.

not a problem - but what format would you prefer to have it in ? .3DS ?

for future info.....

 

open drawing file in sketch-up and export as .3DS

 

autocad does not support 3DS anymore and MAX failed on large file to 3DS
