Serious affect alpha problem (making proxies)!!

Here is the deal-

I am trying to turn a car into a vray proxy so I start off attaching all the parts to create just one object with material IDs. The problem is that when the windows are part of the overall car object then the transparency does not show up in the alpha channel when rendered.

On the flip side, if the windows are a completely independent object (same material) they show as transparent (see attached). Someone please explain what is happening and how to fix it. Thanx.

What do you mean by completely "independant object"? Is it seperate before you create the proxy, or is it a seperate proxy as well? On the version when the alpha doesn't work, is the glass transparent? If it is not transparent, this is the answer. You may know that there is a bug about MSO working with refractionin proxies. The solution is, use a vray blend amterial for the transparent material, and make your transparent material in the base material slot, but don't worry about making a coat material.

That is exactly how i made the material...in fact, it is the same material used in both renders. By 'completely independent' I am reffering to the fact that the glass is only working when it is a separate object from the rest of the car.

This is before making a proxy as I need to make it from one object right?

Wrong. Every proxy I make is many objects. Simply create one MSO material ad apply that material (with proper material id's) to you different objects. Once all the objects have the correct material id (I usually use the material modifier to select which material to use), then select all the objects at the same time, then right click, then click vray mesh exporter. It will export all the selected objects as one object. Good luck.
