skala67
A son of one of our clients has been playing around with the simple home building CD's and has become very interested in 3D. He would like to start learning the more advanced programs (whether it be 3ds, C4d, Lightwave, rhino, maya, etc...) i think he is around 10 y.o. Are there programs from any of the software developers for young kids to purchase or even aquire this software for personal use and to learn? Any other advice or recommendations I can pass on to him and his mother? thanks for your time cheers
ericbarlow21
I know 3ds max used to have a free version called gmax... they may still have it - check their website
skala67
according to their site, gmax was discontinued as a stand alone in 2005. thank you though.
Scott Erstad
why not sketchup? its free and mainstream, and would be pretty quick for a 10 year old to pick up[ w/o getting to frustrated. studio max and a 10 year old? doesnt seem like a goo fit to me... cool that he/she is into it though! skala67
yeah that is probably a good idea. I will suggest that to begin. Comments and ideas still welcome. (you'd be surprised how young kids are gettin into this stuff) thanks,
gfa2
why not sketchup? its free and mainstream Yeah, my kids love that program and they've done some pretty cool stuff with it. Best thing is that I really didn't show them anything and they are just running with it. At 11 and 8 years old...I thought that was pretty cool. aaron-cds
If they have a beefy-enough pc, sketchup with kerkythea would be a great introduction. Both are free, but I'm not sure if the free sketchup works with kerkythea. Bryce 5 is also free.
Chad Warner
studio max and a 10 year old? doesnt seem like a goo fit to me... Several years back I was taking an AutoCad course at the community college, during the same time the class was taught, there was a short course for 4th or 5th graders in Max ( I think it was release 1 or 2).I was so jealous becuase at the time I was just getting into the 3D stuff and I hadn't even used Max yet. Either way, the kids were WAY into it. My seven year old loves to use max and make whatever crazy shapes he can so I don't think 10 is to young.
