Backburner problem

Oh boy, I hate to ask, but I've been looking through documentation for a few hours now and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. This is my first attempt at backburner and such a huge noob, so I apologize.

I'm just working on two computers right now that are already hooked up to each other through firewire. I have been able to transfer regular files back and forth for months, so I know the connection works.

I get a message on the server side that says "could not find a manager". When I first started, the TCP/IP settings were set to automatic, so I left them there to try that first and it didn't work, so I manually typed in 192.168.1.13 for the manager side and 192.168.1.14 for the server side. The ports I believe are correct, I didn't touch them.

I went on the server side and went to edit>general settings and unchecked the box and typed in the 192.168.1.13. I get nothing.

Each computer has it's own separate internet connection that is attached to the Local Area Network. The computers are connected through firewire directly to each other.
