Node Editor

The manual?

At it's most basic, it is very easy. Just check the Edit Nodes button at the top of the material then open up the editor by clicking on the box next to it.

Play around with adding materials or shaders. They 'plug' together rather than the traditional layering.

Hheheee, Stupid question huh. yup I shall dig into the manual. thank you. and that book looks good too hmmm. need some cash for that.

would it be right to say that the node editor over rides the surface editor attributes? which means the node editor controls every aspect of a certain material?

Hi,

I am working with 5.6 and 7.5 LW, although mostly 5.6.

About nodes, if I had several objects with different surfaces would the nodes allow me to add, say a fractal pattern to all of them. For instance if there were many bricks on a wall and I wanted to have an overall fractal pattern mimicking moss could nodes add the underlying moss pattern to the separate bricks ?

I hope the question is coherent.

thank you,

I'm not sure I undertstand Robert.

Isn't that something easily achieved with the traditional layer surfacing?

Using the Nodes system, you can do just about anything. It's incredibly powerful and, to be honest, a bit wasted on what we do but it's a great option to have, especially for intricate glass or metal effects.

Warprat, yes when you enable nodes, they override the material but you can easily do anything with them that you could previously do.

You cant add one node that affects more than one material. Every material has its own node tree. But you can use the same procedural within one material for different channels e.g. color and bump.

BTW: there is a 30 days LW demoversion you can try.

Certain Nodes override certain aspects of the old material editor. If you dont use those nodetypes the old materialeditor is still used.

Diffuse Shading:

overrides Color, Diffuse, Luminosity, Translucency and Diffuse Sharpness

Specular Shading:

overrdies Specular, Glossiness, Color Highlights

Reflection Shading:

overrides the options in the Environment Tab

Refraction Shading:

overrides the options in the Environment Tab Environment Tab, Refraction Index, Color Filter

Material:

overrides everything

Does anyone know how to add an dijitInlineEditBox on tree nodes?

The idea is: when someone double click on a tree node, the inline edit box is displayed and the user may change the name (label) of the tree node.

This may be done on a dojox grid, but currently not on the trees.

Any suggestion to implement this will be greatly appreciated.

Regards
