I'm having a lot of trouble making a wet rock ... it just ends up looking like a plastic rock, or a rock covered in "gel" rather than water ... here are some of my tests with a tonne of different settings/bumps. Can anybody maybe give me some pointers?

try puting a map on the reflection on the Vray material, the "wet" should reflect much nicer than what you have know, I believe there is a dvd fron gnomon, an outside scene on a higway, or something like that. Also try adding a wet map to the stone, there is a cd fron total textures, aged materials, that has some good mapas to do wet marks.ç

Good luck.

For the first 9 I actually took what I considered to be the best 2 out of the bottom group and fooled with some settings. I will try making the reflections sharper to see if it gives me a better result.

out of context I don't think you can judge a wet material, it all comes down to the reflection and you can't judge that in a white box. (regardless of rendering engine)
