Hi,

I want to expand my portfolio as at my work we only do houses. Now I have some ideas of some buildings I would like to model but is there a website/s that have detailed floor plans elevations etc?

Or do you guys just get alot of pictures of the building and do it by them?

Also I was gonna do this modelling in Blender as its free, but is there a better program? I don't mind spending a little but not like £200+.

Thanks

A while ago i've been looking for the same things. Searched and searched but did'nt find any!

The best thing you can do is take pictures of buildings and then try to get the dimension right. Or you could go to the city counsil. Every building needs to have a permit. The plans are at the city counsil for viewing. Maybe they have old plans laying around or something.

I don't know about the U.K., but in the U.S. I wouldn't bother with it. After 9/11 (or, rather, 11/9 to the Brits) you can't just walk in to some place and get floor plans of a building. Sometimes when we work on a job, we are required to have a contract with a shredding agency to destroy any as-builts or drawing sets that we get. People get fired in New York for being careless with plans of projects, especially transportation.

That being said, there are books available that will have drawings and such for some of the more famous buildings that have been built, both historical and recent. Check the monographs of architects or firms you like, and also check out recent architectural magazines.
