Facade studies

One of the prospective buyers of a spec house we drew wanted to see it as a 'mediterranean' also. So I just finished the first pass at the current way it is to be built (cape cod-ish), and I'll finish up with the other flavor today.

I have a tough time with many of the So Cal houses we do, which sit on long narrow lots, houses less than 10' from each other. Tough to frame the picture without making it look like it's sitting in a soccer field as I've done so far. And I didn't feel like putting the large gray massing boxes on either side in this type of render.

C&C please. As always, Im sure I could still add a ton of detail like door handles, downspouts, etc.

One thing that catches my attention is that the tree on the right in the back doesnt cast any shadow on the grass.

The material that youve applied to the walls is max standard architectural material for... roof tiles if im not mistaken. Bearing that in mind i have no idea what material its supposed to be here... doesnt look like siding nor bricks.

Another thing is the fact that you have textured everything around quite nicely and left out parts of the building that are white makes those stand out. No glossy no bump nothing makes these elements look clinically clean.

The sky is to dark for such a direct light source and shadow.

I like the modeling.

I think it is quite good with the exception of perhaps bump or displacement on the shingle siding and flagstone paving. Some grass tufting up around the trunk coming out of the grass mid right side of scene could easily be done in post procesing, but I like it and don't understand the part about not finishing the scene, that is white paint I am assuming.

I agree with the flagstone and siding, I always have a tough time finding good sources, even when you scour all of turbosquid and the usual texture sites. I have neither the time nor experience to create my own right now.

As far as the tree, that's pretty funny, I had no idea that it wasn't casting a shadow. I think it might be the direction of the light. But you're both right, the trunk/grass connection looks weak and pasted in. I really need to find some sort of back fencing or building to cut off the horizon on these houses.

And yes, it is all white trim. Amazingly, this is pretty much how these houses look when freshly built. I'll attach a pic below. Again, not sure how to correctly add, anymore 'gloss' to the white paint. I guess I was trying to achieve it's bright appearance in post with exposure and the exr output.
