Savnac
Greetings- My name is Savnac, and I would like to ask a question regarding SketchUp and Modo, I am new to this forum so here goes. I am very new to both programs and trying to find my way around the two. I model something in SketchUp and imported into Modo. What I got was, tons of Polygons everywhere, and wanted to clean it up in Modo, however I have no idea how to do this. I should have just did this in one or the other, however it's the timing and understand of what tools do what in both. Should I use the two together or not. I do know that SketchUp images look different once it converts over to Modo. I am wondering, does this take up more memory or not. I wanted to carve a curve into a rectangular board and found that It is not as simple as I thought, so if anyone has any suggestions please, I am open to all. CHE
Hi Savnac, I have imported Sketch Up models into Modo successfully in the past. What file format are you exporting to? Make sure that all your normals are facing the right direction in Sketch Up before exporting the model. Otherwise you are going to have to flip the polygons in Modo manually. I will be happy to look at your file and help you find the best way to do this. Send me a PM. Ernesto
Savnac
Hey thanks- For getting back with me. What is a PM. I am not sure what you mean. I am new to this forum, so I have to figure out how to upload things here for viewing. Do you know how to do that, and can you show me. Again I am new at both programs. I like SketchUp a lot but I get lost at how to do certain thing with the tools. Lets say I created a rectangular shape right, and I wanted to carve a curve in the upper corner. How would you go about do so in SketchUp. Another major issue I have, are the Layers. How do they work in SketchUp. I try going about them like layers would work in other programs, I get no where. I also purchased the DVD tutorial from "Go-to-School" they did not cover the layers at all, nor does it covers carving out corners to make a shape. Thanks, Savnac
CHE
PM = Private Message. There is a link to your private messages on the upper right corner of the website. I would suggest you to watch the tutorials that are available at the Sketch Up website http://sketchup.google.com/tutorials.html What you need to do is very simple. Just draw a curve on the rectangular board and then use the push/pull or the erase tool to get rid of the corner.
Savnac
Hello CHE- Thanks for you replies. What it is that I am wanting to do with SkethUp is create Cartoon Houses, Buildings. I start out building out the shapes, however I am haveing problems bowing shapes to create that inflated look. I wish that there were other like myself doing this type of thing with SketchUp, but oh well I guess I will be one of the first once I am good enough. If I knew how to upload and image I would like to send it too you for reviewing. I am not so sure how this works, regarding uploading images. I will take a shot at it. Lets talk after that. It did not work. I am not sure how to get my images on here. I have them ready, however I am stuck Thanks, Savnac
CHE
To attach an image simply click the "manage attachments" button that is in the additional options window when you reply to a post (see attached). As far as I know, there is no way to achieve what you are trying to do in Sketch Up. However, I am sure that you would have a lot of fun with Modo modeling something like that. I am looking forward to see your images.
Savnac
Che- I think the issue is that it wants me to do something with the URL it ask, but I am not sure what that means. I do not mean to act dumb or nothing but the forums make it very difficult to do simple things. All I want to do is up load an image and send to you. I manage to up load it but is stalls. I created a JPEG and uploaded it, and it stalls. There has to be something that I am doing wrong I am sure. Do you have an email address. I can send it that way. I think once I get my head around the tools and how they work, I can make it all happen, but right now I am going through my training stages. I can build things but I get stuck a lot. You will see once I show you the images. Do you have any images that you have finished? Is SketchUp apart of your workflow as well. My reasons for trying this, is for me to get my 2D stuff in the 3D world, build environments, cartoon scene, stuff like that. Anyways thanks for your response, And hey the sooner I can learn how to upload the right way, you will see where I am in my learning curve.
