ericbarlow21
Hello All - In Max I am going to be rendering a series of seven different Revit building models. I have never worked with Revit models before and we will be using the File Link Manager tool. Does anyone have any knowledge on what the differences are between exporting from Revit as a solid versus a polymesh? I tried looking around online and didnt find much... are there advantages and disadvantages to each method? Thanks!
Chad Warner
Don't specifically know the difference, but Iv'e used solids and they've worked out fine.
vizwhiz
ask for output files in both methods, just for Testing purposes Then you can chose which one works The better of The other just an idea randy
antonio_frias
I personally export from Revit to Dwg as solids for one simple reason: In autocad I clean up my model before importing it into Max. I use boolean operations for this. I also organize my layers.

Does anyone have any knowledge on what the differences are between exporting from Revit as a solid versus a polymesh? I have tried both methods and they work fine except for max 9 when using solid exports the command "propagate material to instances" in max doesn't work but working fine if using polymesh export.I'm not sure if I'm the only one experiencing this issue. Autodesk however recommend to use solids as it has few advantages over polymesh like a wall can have different material id for the interior and exterior face. Hope this helps a little bit
jamesB
Polymesh gives you a much more refined control over your materials. So, you can edit seperately the materials of the door panel aswell as the frame. Plus spit faces come in as seperate faces in 3ds max. If you export to solids, the same door will come in as one solid objtect with multi/sub-objects materials.
