Hi,

after this next disappointing maxwell release i really consider buying fry before the preorder ends... the development looks good and consistent and i'm looking forward to the rc4 engine.

the point that bothers me atm. is the rendertime... fry looks very fast on interiors to me, while maxwell 1.5 seems to be slower with indirect light then mxw1.1.

now, after the nda has been ended could someone post some real comparisons of interior scenes with rendertimes?

do i have to use these "exit portals" to get the speed and how does this work?

The rendertimes of programs like Maxwell, Fry and Indigo will be long. Its the nature of the process. You already know that. Yes, one will be a little faster than another, but none of them is going to be like using vRay, Final render or Brazil. I think there's more to the question that which is the faster slow engine.

Look at how many cores you can use per license (which is one way to overcome slowness), look at which program has the best workflow with your host app or apps of choice. Look at which company you feel comfortable doing business with. Look at who does a better job of addressing customer issues when they are raised.

In the end, those aspects of working with a program are more important to me than just the speed. So I'm happy with Fry so far. I have not bothered to do a comparison of a scene in both Fry and Maxwell because even if MWR is faster, I have to deal with NextLimit. Its nice having another option.

and this is what i wanted to know :)

you are right, speed is only one point. but after reading about rendertimes in the fry forum i began to pore over it... e.g. those announcements of 60x speedup with exit portals.

if the difference would be about 5-10% that would be not worth mentioning, but if it would be 20-30%...

i thought there would be some users around who had already compared both engines and could share their results. i'm just curious... :D
