Fran
I'm interested in what people think of this image. I built the scene around a window I'd seen on TV that had purple trim and chartreuse-painted glass. The plant is xfrog and the cat is from 3dcafe. Everything else was modeled in Rhino. This was rendered with Max radiosity. There is a skylight above and to the left of the plant. I used the Daylight System with IES sun. Well, here goes... Sawyer
Nice. Actually the cat was lost to me till you mentioned it, I would like a touch more light at portions at the image - right in front of the vase and behind the dresser. it just seems dark with the dark color [ September 10, 2003, 10:10 PM: Message edited by: Sawyer ]
Alex Ryan Rubio
jeff, do you know any freeware that would do the job well? i dont think i'll be needing a featurepacked app. just the basics, since i'll hve to do some editing on it anyway. all i need is to have a base drawing from where to start. Fran
Hi Sawyer, Maybe the dark purple was a little ambitious? I rendered another with lavender instead. I also tweaked the cat statue a bit so she'd show up a little better. Thanks for your feedback.
Sawyer
Actually the dark one is the better one I think. Kind of far out but vivid and makes me want to engage (spend time examining) the image. The lavender looks good as well but not as mysterious. I was originally thinking that the image was too dark but it may have been my monitor (the darker shadow areas were black no detail) here at work I see them fine. Regardless I think it is what you are trying to express as the tone of the 2 images is really different.
RezMAN
I agree with Sawyer, your first render definitely conveys a certain mood... I find the base board and surrounding area a bit too dark, perhaps try to make the floor a bit reflective (if it’s a hard wood floor), other than that... I like it! Yes, I agree. The darker version is more dramatic and the lighter one is more whimsical.
Ernest Burden III
I would either change the angle of the incoming light just enough to eliminate the sliver of light on the florr--or make it bigger, more 'there' contributing some light to the bottom region of the picture. I like it. Oh, I shoud add...I like the darker one more, for reasons already stated by others.
Fran
Thanks everyone for your constructive comments. I set the time ahead 1 hour so the sun would be a little higher in the sky, and increased the reflectance of the floor just a touch. Buffalo Bills
Fran, Like the image. It does have a very nice feel/ mood to it. I really like the first one. Ernest had a good point on changing the direction of the light through the skylight. I maybe would have gone with making the sliver of light larger to light the floor up a little bit. I like how the light hits the top of the dresser in the first one. Anyways, Great job!
Fran
Thanks again for the feedback. Here is a new version. I added a chair for a little better sense of scale. Michael, where is Oakton? I'm near the Bay in Gloucester.
kid
beautiful scene Fran. The light hitting the door is great.

And I guess, if you have to ask after that, it's not all that important anyway. :angecool: Oh, and thanks Tony.
bigcahunak
Hi Fran I'm not too big on purple for a whole room interior, but thats me... I also think that the last one is the best, so far. It looks somewhat too dard in those areas to the sides of the cabinet. The light comming from the outside looks somewhat strong, which is the reason why I feel so, especially since the ceiling and the upper sides of the walls do get more light and seemed brighter. Good luck.
Fran
Hi Itzik, Originally posted by bigcahunak: ... I'm not too big on purple for a whole room interior, but thats me...No. Really? Actually, this is quite a deviation from my normal color palette. If you've seen any of my other work, you notice it doesn't get any more dynamic than "pastel". Such excitement. So this is more an experiment with color and composition than anything else. That is what is so wonderful about CGI. The paint is still at the store. ... I also think that the last one is the best, so far. It looks somewhat too dard in those areas to the sides of the cabinet...I generally resist the urge to fill in all the darker areas. My printed output is calibrated to match to my CRT display. ... The exposure settings are adjusted so that the light from the skylight doesn't wash out the wall too much. The alcove is in the shadow of that light. I hope this explains my thinking behind the choices I made. Thanks for your comments.
Buffalo Bills
Fran, The last image looks great! Like Kid said, the lighting on the door looks awesome. As far as where I live, the Oakton area is roughly about twenty minutes outside of D.C. Not exactly familiar with where you are located. Are you on the northern neck of Virginia? I checked out your website and really like how you use light throughout your rooms. Very nice. Mike
Fran
Hi Mike, Gloucester is on the "Middle Peninsula". Birthplace of Pocohantas and all that. I said we were near the bay, but if Isabella hits, we're likely to be IN the bay! We've gotten so much rain already, that there is no place for anymore to go. Here is one last image of the purple room. The guys on the Rhino forum weren't getting it that the "window with purple trim and chartreuse-painted glass" was a window. :???: So I tried to make it look like leaded glass. Maybe if I have time, I'll change it to clear beveled glass between the cames. I personally love the reflection on the picture glass to the right. The picture itself is a nebula taken from Hubble. So is the blue pic from the other view (hence the chair).
Buffalo Bills
Fran, Very very nice, I like the effect you created with the reflection. Nice Job! I hope you don't get swallowed up by Isabel! Are you thinking about evacuating if the weather folks have a more direct path she will take or are you going to hang tough. Well definitely keep up the good work.
Fran
Thanks Mike, We think it's pretty safe to stay where we are. We are far enough away from the bay and about 100 feet above sea level. Plus our house is pretty sturdy. I hope Isabel ricoches off of the Outer Banks like most of them do. Seems like the more momentum they have, the further they get flung out into the ocean. I'm all for that. Okay. I promise this is the last one. Really. No, I mean it.
