ChooChoo
I have been working a week on these windows and just can't seem to finish them off correctly. I model most of my building and parts in Revit and I had a problem with it there. So I tried from scratch in Max and I just don't have the modeling experience with the program. So I'm thinking maybe this idea might work, but not sure. I made the windows I need in Revit, then imported into Max. Good so far. What I need them to do is wrap them around a curved surface. So I placed a circle with the correct diameter/radius in the file attached. This is where I am at the limits of my experience. I though maybe the bend modifier might give me what I need but not sure how to manipulate it properly. The windows will be custom, so they are all arced, not flat and segmented. The glass will be arced also. Any help would be appreciated.
IceAged
I find it rather unusual that you are trying to curve the glass and window frames, normally you would just segment them and keep them straight. Anyhow, you are right in choosing the bend modifier - this needs to be applied to everything, (minus the circle), with the bend axis set to X, the angle at -165, and the gizmo rotated -90 on X. If you want everything to be curved, apply a subdivide modifier to the windows first, reduce it a little to create more subdivisions, and then apply the bend modifier. Not very elegant... but it works. Personally i would model the windows from scratch using splines or edit poly, but of course it depends on how much time you have... ChooChoo
Thanks Thomas. Yes it is unusual, but this home is rather large and expensive. Everything is custom. Money is no object here. Wish I had that option! I know Revit is not the best option here, but I need it modeled and cannot do this in Revit properly.
mskin
you could try drawing the profile of the window (in section). Convert the circle to a spline. Apply the sweep modifier to to the circle and choose your profile (make sure its a continuous spline, all vertex welded) as a custome profile. you will still need to make the vertical mullions, perhaps draw the plan section and extrude it the appropriate height. if you need the window segmented, change the interpolation of the original circle. let me know how it goes....
