ki_cz
http://www.maxwellrender.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22778 Is this for real? All of this stuff is nice to have in the 1 out of 50 instances I might ever need it, but what about the basic rendering features? I really have no clue what to think anymore ... trino
what basic features ? i´m not a maxwell user but if Maxwell Render have a 1.5 upcoming version i can´t belive you still need basic features, that sounds bad.
AJLynn
This actually does look pretty useful. Especially if it can be adjusted and updated, is stable and doesn't kill the computer's resources. I'd use it.
Adehus
Call me a dense, but except for in the video I can't really tell what the difference is... can't see anything special about Mike's image, and if the new functionality is doing anything to Mihai's image, it's making it look more cg than it would otherwise. Nothing wrong with adding fingerprints to lenses (I guess...), but there are much more pressing needs.
Fran
Quote of the day (so far): "It is nice to know that I can make renders look like photos made with poorly handled, crappy cameras." I'm sorry, but I LMAO when I read that, and I like bloom when my background isn't working. It's also useful to convey the sense of lots of light filling a space - which is what clients usually want. Ernest Burden III
Quote of the day (so far): "It is nice to know that I can make renders look like photos made with poorly handled, crappy cameras." I'm sorry, but I LMAO when I read that I didn't get that far, I stopped, and actually had my own un-expected laughing outburst at this: VisualImpact wrote: I think you need to get a "TM" for 'dissapointment' as well NL. Wow, that caught me by surprise. I thought MWR already had a lens apperature / diaphragm shape choice. Fry does. I guess the new part is the crap on the lens? OK. They forgot light-leaks from a bent camera body, 'chose the wrong damned ASA' simulation, a system where the render engine automatically stops rendering after about 37 images (with the first few being 'maybe's'), and a very special feature where occasionally 36 renders will all come out black because the virtual film didn't catch on the virtual sprockets so you've been shooting blanks. And naturally, Maxwell Render will not be usable on a dual-monitor system since that would suggest both eyes being open. A more useful feature would be virtual film, with the varying chromatic spectral response sampled from known professional film stock.
renato
I don't understand why NL call it 1.5. With the level of improvements they would've just call it 1.2. well, I bought maxwell in november 2004, still alpha, and now when it's 1.5, it has almost the same features, still no displacement,
arqjuan
Maybe NL didn't see this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lens_(optics) SimuLens where is the fisheye camera, pano camera, etc and chromatic aberration and other stuff related with the lens simulation Cheers JC PS. I like this feature but... come on there are so many features linked to the lens that i can't see are implemented, or maybe they keep in secret
Devin Johnston
I'm like most of you I think this feature is ridiculous, the only thing that makes since to me is they are releasing these low priority features just to keep people off their backs until the full release. _PopArt
its not so much the feature in itself or the dissappointment for those who want something bigger, as usual its the marketing things that piss you off. Ok its an improvemnt of the post lens effect system, which i never really like but which can be useful, its the way its presented with the fancy name and the trademark, which i really dont like (the trademark that's not nice as an idea). As always has been i guess NL has a programming department and a marketing department and as usual the marketing department is doing damage
Sawyer
I guess the new part is the crap on the lens? Yes now you can "fog" the lens for those cool dreamy 1983 style portraits. Maybe next maxwell can develop a sun glare for a true photo real effect.
Tommy L
I wish i had maxwell just so i could take part in the bitching. No, really, you Maxwell users have all the best complaining. Its really the most interesting forum to read on cga. It should have a parental guidance, sometimes there's more f***ing symbols than text. I have to check my cables because the screens turned blue.....maybe they should call it F*xwell. Honest, I'm going to buy it just cos I like joining in. Are the Maxwell home forums as good fun? So some have you have had all this complaining fun for 3 years for like $500 if you got beta? Wow, wish Id got on board sooner. Was F*xwell beta just practice for NL to wind their customers up? They seem to be very good at it, well 3 years practice who wouldnt be....Now wheres my wallet?
numerobis
...Are the Maxwell home forums as good fun? no, if you try to have fun over there you will get banned ... ...its the way its presented with the fancy name and the trademark, which i really dont like (the trademark that's not nice as an idea). As always has been i guess NL has a programming department and a marketing department and as usual the marketing department is doing damage ...maybe that's one reason why this release took so long - they first had to seal all the trademarks for the new/improved features. AJLynn
Really, guys, I don't see what the big deal is. They took a feature that some people use and others don't, made it better and released an announcement on it - why is this so bad? They've also changed and improved a bunch of other things. It's not like they're releasing a 1.5 update just so they can improve the glare function. Now, if you need to render something that replicates a lense that's got George Lucas's fingerprint on it because he accidentally touched it before the shoot and you disapprove of how they cleaned it for the new DVD release, you're going to need this feature. It's not so much what they did, its what they didn't do. But maybe there really are some special things in the next release. Time will tell. Adehus
It's not so much what they did, its what they didn't do. That's the impression- nothing's worthy of a .5 jump. Nothing's wrong with simulating fingerprints on lenses, but that's about as trivial as a function can be, isn't it? What about the critical (and long-promised) functions that are still missing? Fran
Okay. There's a new quote of the day that tops the other one: "SimuLate™" ROFLMAO. It's been awhile since a thread has been so much fun to read over there.
trino
Well after reading a couple of posts in that place it seems like those people have learned to post only sarcasm related to the announcements, which are kind of funny really, one that i really love was this one: "Wow !! it sounds like something that i´m never gone to use" and the "Simuthings" that everyone wants. Too bad for those guys who apparently are waiting for this "big" release.
Devin Johnston
NL didn't do them selves any favors by waiting this long to release anything, we've been waiting for a year for some kind of update not even knowing what that update would be. There are some important features like displacement which almost has to be in this release there's just no way that they could have gone a whole year without making some significant headway.
_PopArt
the release was supposed to be mid may (by their words), and of course its mid may and there isn't even a final feature list? Does this sound familiar to anybody? "The island of the day before?" HAve we been there?
buffos
I think i am the only banned forumer from Maxwell forums (i suppose everyone else has been unbanned) but i take that as a compliment 2.5 years later and things are just the same. Soon Soon Soon Soon Soon Soon.. and so (so)On. The only thing that can save the current release is include displacement (micropoly) and that still is not enough. When the promised features for the v1 release are still on the "wish list" and they are not just a couple but quite a few and important NONE can tell us just be patient. 2.5 years is not enough? What pacients. They sold something that should have been ready so much time ago and we have to still be pacient. The amusing part is that there are still many i***ts that keep saying "thank you NL" . I can only understand that if they are retarted or NL alias account. Anything else is not logical. As for that new feature.... :)
Adehus
I think i am the only banned forumer from Maxwell forums (i suppose everyone else has been unbanned) but i take that as a compliment I wouldn't claim that title quite yet... LOL... and I'm not holding my breath.
buffos
Well if i am not the only one YET, i suppose i can claim to be the most unwanted NL customer LOL I remember i comment by victor (in the old times that he has a face to show at the forum) that he thinks that in time ,as i see the good stuff they would bring, i would become their most satisfied customer.... THAT is what i call tha joke of the century
