Best workflow to export a model from Revit/Acad/ to 3DS Max 9 and to be able to turn that meshes to editable poly, please?

I did as described, and in Max tried to collapse e.g. columns as mesh to make

editable polys to bevel, noise,etc.

All the columns appeared attached (single object) and 60 column objects in the selection list that were emtpy, but imposible to delete!

What did I do wrong?

Thanks

I discovered that I don't want file linking, just want the mesh to edit & humanize it in 3ds max (chamfer/ bevel/ noise, etc.)to get rid of the "sharp and rigid cubes"

This can be done with my old acquintances .3ds & .dxf

Thank you

3d export from revit or all cad softwares are very bad.

You got two way to do the export:

Use the file link manager and click render.:D

Or get the 2d lines exported from your cad software and rebuild the 3d in max. Because all 3d mesh from revit have lots of problems, like the orientation of the normals, poly superposed etc...multiple vertex. I dont think you can do anything with it...

There might be an issue with glass with zero thickness and normals but there is no reason to rebuild an entire model for that.

Why are you rebuilding models?...I have never heard of that before.

Revit to Viz-Vray works fine. Export Cad format from a 3d view, file link in viz, switch out the materials to vray materials and hit render.

But I wish vray was the default Revit rendering engine...:D

you did'nt understand me:p

I just want to said that, depending of the project i prefer building 3d in 3dsmax than working on a 3d export from revit. if you want to edit a 3d mesh from revit into 3ds max, it would be the mess... Revit export to 3dsmax is a mess, Autocad export to 3dsmax is a mess. None works fine, because the topology and the 3d is differente.

Archkre want to edit the 3d in 3ds max i try to explain that’s it should be difficult, and that is not the best way...

If a had to , i should export a dxf then explode the blocks, groups and try to edit the mesh.

I have noticed that export to dwg and importing(not file linking), then exporting to obj. When I import that obj it comes nice and clean. All the curtain walls come in as one element and not in as a million different ojbects. The mullions come in as seperate. Very easy to set up the new textures and start fresh instead of importing all the clutter that comes from Revit.

Depending on the project of course, but I have had problems getting larger projects into viz. Sometimes also smaller apartment buildings with loads of curtain wall systems brings viz to a screaching holt, so the smaller the object count the better.

Would be great if there was an option to combine similar objects like this in dwg import dialog box, or if there is please tell me where it is :)
