Ernest Burden III
the NDA just expired...give us all some unfiltered commentary right now that would help us decide whether to buy it at the prerelease price The things that made it a good buy for me were never under NDA. The program obviously functions well, but the atmosphere at Fry's forum, and the direct, honest and helpful behavior of FeverSoft mean a lot to me. Fry has the same issue with secondary bounced light showing up in a reflection that you asked about a week or so ago. I ran the test and the Fry result pretty much matched your Maxwell test. I also ran the test in Lightscape for a reality check and guess what--the software from 1995 had no trouble with the problem. So you just can't win... Fry uses a dongle, so you need your ten IPs to be on the same network so they can see it. That's my technical assumption, by the way. I could be wrong, but it makes sense. Look at Fran's work on the Fry site, look at u.big's. Its a great tool.
u.biq
@Ernest u.biQQQQ As Ernest says, Fry has currently the advantages AND the limitations of the unbiased renderers. It's true. They don't overcome certain kind of scenes. BUT beside that, it has a lot of -working- features and a "moving forward" development, plus the real time engine soon to come. It's easy to use, particularly if you already use MWL. So, all i can say is that if you like Maxwell for what it does well, you will be delighted by Fry. Sawyer
Ok u.biq I see the work you have done and I really like it. What are the render times for some of your images?
u.biq
Ok u.biq I see the work you have done and I really like it. What are the render times for some of your images? Hi Sawyer, it's not a simple question, as it heavily depends of the size of the image, the complexity of the scene, and last but not least, the machines specs. So, generally, for the images i've post on the fry's forum, i've always tried to give these parameters. Take a look at them, maybe. Also note that some of them were made on v1.6, and v1.7 is faster. Here you can find a benchmark around a particular scene http://fryrender.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=775&highlight=benchmark cheers
