Devin Johnston
I have a cylinder that is my ground plane with a tree line map applied to a plane that I want to array around the perimeter of the cylinder 360 degrees. How do I do this with the array command?
trino
put the tree in some point in the perimeter then change its pivot point to the center of the cylinder, when you array the tree divide 360 by the number of copys that you want, some thing like this: if you want 12 trees in total you have to change 30º each copy in z axis or whatever is your ground axis. Hope its clear and it helps. Oh i forgot, maybe you have to blend the plane to make it rounded, put some subdivs along the blend axis and put the blend modifier. SandmanNinja
I have a cylinder that is my ground plane with a tree line map applied to a plane that I want to array around the perimeter of the cylinder 360 degrees. How do I do this with the array command? Here's a short video of how to do a circular array. I recorded it at a higher resolution and saved it as a streaming video at 1024x768. It looks clear enough on my monitor. What I like about circular arrays is that you can quickly change the number of items you want to have circling about the centre without having to do the math again and again. There are a few different ways to do it. Shift-Rotate to clone it, or select the edge of the cylinder top, turn the shape into a spline, then use the spacing tool to have the tree follow the path of the spline. Here is the link - hope it helps: http://www.dhimaging.com.au/3D/tutorial/02/circular-array2.html

A picture is worth a thousand words... hehe I use Camtasia to record tutorials for my day job, and find it's useful for literally showing someone exactly how to do something.
