Hey guys,

Been a while since Ive popped up :)

Trying my hand at a new warehouse complex. Its far from complete (still waiting on finishes for the actual structures) but would appreciate some suggestions on getting it looking a bit more realistic.

Cheers,

Ky.

The lighting needs alot of work, currently its too flat and even. The lack of strong shadows and overly soft skylight shadows is confusing. Also the colours are overly saturated.

I think once the lighting and texture scale is sorted you will be well one your way to a good image

Wow Ky...10.5 hour render time...ouch. Should be like 10 minutes for what it is. You've got some glossy reflections in there, but still. I'd loose the RPC's too, they just don't jive, they rarely do with GI. The lack of a background makes it kind of have that table top model feel.

Agreed, it was a mega high res render...Im rendering small test renders in about 7 mins, so no stress there. Prob just had the settings higher than needed. Still new at this :) Just wish I had the time/technology/clients/patience to spend more time experimenting etc.

Agreed with the background too, the camera angles etc are all not yet sorted, so more interested in the modelling.texturing that the composition at this stage.

Working on the lighting atm.

It's amazing, this looks like a physical model. Although, that's probably not your intention. Boost the shadows and light intensity and reduce the size of the wall texture that makes it look like a scale model. Placing a environment reflection in the glass would help too.

Thanks for the vote of confidence.

Def not going the total photorealistic look, or Ill just end up with just another warehouse complex...trying to make it appear a bit nicer.

Def some value in settling down on saturation levels of colors. Latest test came out alot better (excuse the normals prob in the reflections, working on that).

the fachade is too planar, maybe that is why you are lacking some definitions shadows, and the shadows are too blurry as well, try to make them more sharp but not too much. The camera angle is what it makes it look like a physical model, try to low it down. The lighting looks good but as i said you need some definition shadows.:)

Thanks for all the help and suggestions guys.

Def not going the photo realistic look for this client, otherwise itll look like a concrete box in the middle of nowhere (which, it is).

Meeting with them hopefully today to get some final fixtures and colors sorted. Will post something later.

Thanks to those who PM'd me links. Appreciated it.

Got some good models, and getting the final render sorted to get ready for some PS work (they had specific landscaping in mind I couldnt do in Max).

But, heres a rough one...Id like to do more with the "plain" bits, like the large space of grass etc, and the frontal areas are pretty nondescript, but the client is having kittens, and I guess thats what matters.

I personally still think I can do better, but learning with every new job!

Ky, this has really come a long way. I like the new angle too. I've got to ask though, are you intentionally staying away from direct shadows? It's seems like they could be one of the last things to really pull this together? What are you using for a light source?

Thanks for the vote of confidence. Still a long way to get to the quality of the like of JHV etc, but being self taught (and working fulltime at the same time) has me condensing my learning time :) But yeah, its getting there and considering what the client has had done in the past for the same price, he's stoked.

Yes, intentionally pulled away from direct lights and shadows, as the client wanted a more "model" look rather than photorealistic.

I have a huge vray light over the model, a small omni below not casting shadows and using the environment illumination set very low just for edge contrast.

Ky, you pulled off that "model look" with that depth of field. Makes the model feel smaller than life size.

Looks good, like the colors.

Cheers mate. Getting there. Will post once I have the final render and some landscaping in.
