sterealkey
Hi all, I'm trying to work through this tutorial http://www.evermotion.org/index.php?unfold_exclusive=156&unfold=exclusive I dont know if they're using an older version of vray, I'm using 1.5RC3. When I apply a vraylight material to an object, then it comes out bright white, but other than that it doesnt actually emit light. In this tutorial you can see the light shining onto the walls. I cant get it to do that. Am I an idiot, or is there a trick to it? Please help.
hughie
A more basic overview of VrayLightMtl: http://www.vrayelite.com/basic.php otherwise have you tried trying it without the bitmap and play around with the number beside colour
Ricardo Eloy
Try setting its multiplier as high as 100, for example.
aaron-cds
It looks like they're using vraylight planes to throw light on the wall. You can confirm that by downloading the final max file that's available at the bottom of the tutorial.
rivoli
this may not be the case, but if don't have gi the light mat won't work. it doesn't cast any direct light, only indirect, so indirect illumination has to be active. another thing you may want to try, is to place actual vray light surrounding your fluorescent tube set as skylight portals. you'll have environment set to 0 (so they won't cast any light), but they may help vray knowing where the indirect light from the tube is actually coming from. it should speed things up, and actually help vray treat your object as a light "source". it may not help a bit, but anyway, you may want to have a look at this thread where vlado explains this thing much better than me: http://www.chaosgroup.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=131564#131564

Peace, Piet

anvaraziz
oops setting multiplier as high as 100.... may be its due to wrong scale and unit setup... for me im working on "cm" n with a value of 1 to 5 VrayLightmtl ll cast good illumination.... Crazy Homeless Guy
oops setting multiplier as high as 100.... may be its due to wrong scale and unit setup... for me im working on "cm" n with a value of 1 to 5 VrayLightmtl ll cast good illumination.... if the VrayLightMtl is in an exterior scene, with the VraySun and VrayCamera, you will need to crank the number like Rick says. Exteriors are bright. Try reading the display on your cell phone on a sunny day. The exterior lighting conditions make it difficult. If the VrayLightMtl is in an indoor condition, 1 to 5 works like a charm.
Ricardo Eloy
About the scale, one thing to add here. Many people confuse Display Units with System Units. They're two totally different things, so it doesn't matter if one's working in cm or km, as long as the system unit is correct (for example, 1 unit = 0,025 meters ou 2,54 cm or simply 1 inch). Once the world's scale is correct, you can switch display units whenever you want.
anvaraziz
"Many people confuse Display Units with System Units. They're two totally different things- " i agree that.... but before when i start to work with photometric lights(first days of archvis) , there comes this same situation... i was forced to pump up the light values very high.. then one of my friend suggested me to get the correct scale n it worked fine for me... so dont u guys think that these scale setup have something to do with light multipliers ? Tommy L
Things would be easier if the americans went metric.....

sterealkey
Hehe, and if they learnt how to spell. LOL Kidding Thanx for the info guys, but if I keep my measuring units as mm, which I prefer because I'm an African boy and thats how we measure here what do I need to set my world units to to make my light multipliers work more like they should? Inches? So should 1 unit = 1 inch?
