kippu
well if i was caught in a crunch situation , i would make some splines , make it renderable and then play with the material ,using noise in the opacity , to get the effect ...or i would use some fountain maps from some library and use it there... did that help? archkre
Does anybody recall any tutorial on super spray particles? Thanks
notamondayfan
if you have access to after effects pro you can do it in post, using the particle playground. add the effect to a new layer, adjust the settings, such as gravity, adjust the colours and add a blur to the layer. very quick for good results. IHAB
maybe you can export an avi of a jetstream from combustion or illusion and apply it as a bitmap on a plan then split alpha channel.done and dont forget to modify your plan to "look at" to your camera. this is the fastest way i know
Nils Norgren
Here is a quick fountain with PFlow, which when you get a chance has a great deal of help built into max help. I use PFlow often for fountains, along with the mesher object to make Bellagio(sp?) style fountains. For this to work you need to open Particle Flow view, find tab that reads "Shape Facing" and select Your Camera as the Facing Object. I prefer to render these fountains as a pass, I set the camera to have Multi-Pass motion blur, (Set within the camera) this is expensive motion blur as it renders the scene many times to make the blur, but it is the only reliable way I have found to make good looking blur for fountains (you cannot use Image motion blur, as the shape's topology changes from frame to frame). To make the fountain taller the gravity can be lessened, or the speed increased, if this is done there may be the need to change the Particle death so that particles don't die too early. Hope this helps. -Nils If you are going to render this across a network it may be a good idea to put a Cache node in the tree at the top (this way you be sure that all machines will calculate particles the same)
archkre
Thanks to everyone! The After Effects solution is very captivating, gonna give that a try in the future, by now I am using the merged fountain mesh!
ipxstudios
If you have access to combustion there are some great looking fountains in there under "particles".
