batteryoperatedlettuce
just started working on a hotel. Have to show the rear corner. I have about 80% of the modeling done now for the corner. Will post updates.
alfienoakes
Nice.. Modeling looks good. Pretty tight. Looks like a good one to work on. The lighting looks good in the balcony areas that are in shadow. Looks a little "blue" at the moment. Just a slight hue to it. If it was warm sun, would be a bit more orange to it. But it is a WIP....

Onzki
Hi, very nice WIP.. what program did you used? do you have a tutorial for these kind of modeling? right now, i'm doing a 2-storey house (3dsmax) with arches & details also..but i stopped coz i dont know how to make arches & other moulding details like yours..Did you start from floor plan going up(extrude) or from elevation? any booleans? Well, honestly, i haven't seen on web any complete MODELING tutorial for exterior architectural viz, its always box houses,or buildings of simple geometry, or just interiors. Hope you can share your basic techniques. Thanks..
batteryoperatedlettuce
No booleans!!! -for the entablatures, arches, rails and crowns on the windows I drew the cross section in AutoCAD and used a sweep modifier. also some lathed shapes for the posts and so on. I sketched it first and made CAD drawings for almost all the components, which I had to simplify a bit in max -Those corinthian capitals, I started with a box and just beveled and extruded the leaves and used an extruded helix for the volutes. the rest is just boxes and so on. -the stone wall I just drew and copied a few splines and beveled them out. This is my first shot at an exterior view so I'm kind of learning stuff as I go. another update... materials still not sorted out, just using a bare stone proxy for the moment.... render times still at about 6 minutes on low settings. poly count is through the roof already
Onzki
Thanks for the tips.. i'll try it now, "no booleans", i'll remember that:) looks like a promising arch viz. i like the material used in your wooden table. what's your timetable for completion? i'll check it again. Thanks!

innerdream
That balcony shot is great! I would like to see less angle to the walls on your other camera set ups. I love your model!
Exellite
Well, honestly, i haven't seen on web any complete MODELING tutorial for exterior architectural viz, its always box houses,or buildings of simple geometry, or just interiors. Hey Onzki, give these videos a go, I haven't had time to watch all of the vids yet but what I've seen so far is not bad. Personally I would do the spline work he does in AutoCAD if you have it, its extremely slow and quite inaccuarate when using Max for spline work http://www.tutorialized.com/view/tutorial/Making-of-Chinese-Building-CKS-gate-in-3ds-max-7/25094 great modelling btw Elliott
innerdream
Just an FYI. In Cheetah you can import Illustrator drawings as splines to extrude etc. I don't know if you can draw in scale in Illustrator though or if your program will import as splines? innerdream
Looks good. I think I would like to see more surface texture in the future.
batteryoperatedlettuce
thanks, I know what you mean about that - I might try rendering it again tonight, but it's chewing on my ram as it is. a bump map over everything would just about kill it I think
innerdream
Got it. You did a very nice job.
alfienoakes
Nice modelling.. The shadow of the tree in the foreground catches my eye for some reason.. Cant put my finger on it yet. I think the pattern used for the pavement is too much.. I would replace it with something lighter and simpler.. It looks really heavy.. Lighting is nice tho..
