Archshaders?

Don't waste your moneyon the archsahders, 299$ is quite a lot money for those shaders. on the website they say it contains more then 1000 shaders, well, i would say there are max 200 shaders, the other 800 are the same materials just with other textures or glossiness value. and those shaders are not really complicated. you can get quite a lot good free materials at http://www.vray-materials.de

most of them will render quite fast because they are quite simple. some of the materials have more subdivs then i would use but this is a quick fix. btw, you can download a demo of the archshders and take a look at them by yourself ;)

I would also recommend you take a look at the Arroway collections if you haven't already.

http://www.arroway.de/en/index.html

I have the wood collection and it is great for doing large areas of flooring with no visible tiling as most maps cover 6x6m area. Each comes with diffuse specular and bump maps, although they can eat memory at that size.

No matlibs though, you have to bring each map into the material yourself and play with glossiness etc, but overall really nice.

You can also download a low res preview of all textures.

I think I remember see some of the Evermotions that had really high glossy values. Like 80 I think and they didn't need them and it just killed my scene. I don't know if the arch shaders have those kind of issues but I have been wary of using them since I found those materials.

That's my concern since I only understand the basics of material creation in Vray I don't want to buy a bunch of stuff that's going to make Vray any slower than it has to be. I wish Vray had some kind of Wizard like Maxwell does, or even came with a limited selection of pre-made materials like Maxwell.

between the information given on the chris nichols' dvds about materials and the aversis tutorials for creating vray materials, I've never felt a need to purchase shaders.

You could buy a package..... but it's a lot more beneficial to learn what the settings really do and make your own.

I wouldn't bother for any premade material collections at all. If you still need to learn (and you always have to) just buy an evermotion interior CD, investigate all the materials and in one weekend you have enough grasp on how to set up a decent scene within no time, including lighting. Just keep in mind that you can still simplify both material and lighting setup to get faster rendering since evermotion is not interested in speed but more in ease of use. When you're stepping ahead there is still enough room to find the edge for certain tasks and that is where your specific skills will need to come around, just as with any other renderengine.

olli96 had a great material library for download so perhaps you could pm him and ask?

thanks for the plug :) they are still online: http://www.olli96.net/data/Olli96_VRayShader_v1.rar - the textures are missing tho because i got some problems with my webspace. i could upload them again at rapidshare or something like that or you can simply use your own textures.

i collected those shaders over the last two years in several forums (before there was http://www.vray-materials.de) so some of them will look familiar to you.

be aware that those shaders are for VRay 1.47, if you are using newer version of VRay then you have to adjust the subdivs of those materials. Most of these shaders can be used right away but i suggest to use them as a starting point for your own shaders and to teak them some more.
