pc keeps crashing

Got abit of a problem, been asked to model and render an exterior view of a house.

This is my first exterior project, mostly do exhibition stands. Imported and merged several models, a tree, car and fence. Used a down loaded grass material from a vray site (using vray to render)

The model is 183 Meg in size, using a Pentium 4. 3GHz pc with 3 GB ram. Every time I try and render even to low res my pc crashes.

Am I on to a looser, do you think it’s the size of the model or another problem (pc not up to it).

Sorry if this is basic stuff but don’t come across this sort of thing when modelling a stand for car parts.

Can anyone suggest a fix

182mb is a big model, you will probably need to sort out your file size,

read Brian's Viz Insider, Week 12 should sort you out.

If Max has crashed a few times you might want to run a disk cleanup to get rid of the temp files that it has left behind.

I'd guess your running out of memeory when trying to render, especially if the the models you've imported are hi poly versions.

Try switching off / Hiding all the extra elements you've imported like the car and trees and see if it'll render... you can then switch things one by one and try tpo render again etc. to find your limit.

If i'm right and its to do with memory issues i suggest looking at Vray Proxies for you Cars and Trees, that should allow you to render as needed.

Sorted it, it was a mixture of problems the large file size was down to me rushing when copying the original brick wall/railings. Did a multi copy instead of instance .

Still crashed so unticked displacement on the grass. bingo.

Got the job done to a reasonable standard to the deadline, not 100% happy with it but will go back to it when I get the chance, didnt change the grass map so abit flat theres other issues but will sort out later. Ive attached a distance shot .

Cheers all for your help .
