justintime1
Hi folks Can any one suggest the best way to achieve this mottled, random, masonry effect with a vray textrue in Max ? cheers Matt
olli96
unwrap your wall and texture it in photoshop, that would be the best way in my opinion to do it. you should also create a bump and a specular map and then use these textures in the appropriate material slots of your vray material. you can do it also in max, use the blend or composite material to create this kind of effect. here you can find an example: http://www.3dtotal.com/team/Tutorials/london_scene/london_02.asp Olli
Nils Norgren
Check out this tutorial at "The Area" on using vertex paint with procedural materials. It may work for you. For this to apply, you would prepare a few different tiling block patterns, with different levels of dirt and darkness, then make sure that your model has plenty of geometry (to accept the vertex paint information). -Nils http://area.autodesk.com/learning/tutorials/details/2446/
Andy Park
I would normally use the 3dmax Tile material. you can add a color variation to get lighter and darker bricks. Give the tile material multiple layer blended noise maps to create blotches.
