Aaron2004
Hello, I am having a problelm with LWF in VIZ. It seems like MAX users get more options in the Preferences--->Gamma dialog box than us VIZ users get. Can we still do LWF? Thanks! Aaron
jophus14
Now that you mention it, I'm asking myself the same thing. I can't quite get the hang off LWF yet and I am using VIZ at work and Max at home, but you are right, the dropdown options are different between the two softwares now that i look at it. I'm not sure if that would be significant when working with Linear Workflow. Hopefully someone could clearify.
jophus14
According to another member on this site, LWF can be used in VIZ but he didn't say much more then that.
JamesTaylor
LWF is possible in Viz... use the same methods as shown in many tutorials. Viz is simply Max with subobject animation, particals and reactors and perhaps a couple of other minor interface adjustments. In Viz under gamma prefences enable it, set display gamma to 2.2 and set bitmap file - Input Gamma to 2.2 and hit OK
jophus14
That's what I figured but since I don't properly know or understand LWF I knew that it was something that I was doing wrong opposed to the software. I have seen several tutorials regarding LWF and when I apply the technique to my scenes, my material have to be ridiculously dark to even show up remotely close to the color I need them to be. I heard that using LWF with Vray Physical camera is a great way to work because of the exposure controls, but the physical camera is a task in itself. I will keep on trying to experiment with both LWF and the physical camera in hopes of one day getting both to perform properly.
jophus14
The one problem that I just noticed with setting Gamma to 2.2 is that we have no "Affect Material Editor" option in our dropdown so we will never be able to view the 2.2 gamma taking place in our material editor. This once again means that it'll be a guessing game to get the material remotely close to what we want in the end. EDIT: I just found a PDF that says that in the service pack for VIZ 2007 there the "Affect Material Editor" display. http://images.autodesk.com/adsk/files/viz2007_sp1_readme.rtf

Aaron2004
MMMMmm...After installing it I still don't get a new option for material editor gamma in the preferences menu. Is it working for you? It shows that I am running SP1 *EDIT*-It looks like it does it autmotically...there is not check box. All clear!
