claytonjamesblack
A simple vray interior problem which someone can help me with. I'm trying to get the wine glasses to produce see thru shadows. I have read plenty of tutorials about how to produce the caustic shadows but I'm not getting anywhere. I'm using max 9 vray 1.5. There is something I'm missing!! Trevor Tizard
Can you render a blow up of the area, kind of hard to see;)
claytonjamesblack
close up of glaees and shadows. Shadows should not look like shadows made by a wall, ie have some light passing thru.

claytonjamesblack
The problem is solved. I turned off Vray : Caustics. Still not happy with the results though. I just thought Vray caustics would give me the desired effects that the material with affect shadow has.

3darchitect
I won't pretend to know anything about VRay b/c I haven't had the opportunity to work w/ it yet, but just a comment on your images. You got the shadows for the glass to work, but I personally like the shadows in your first image more. The second image is much brighter and I personally think that you burn out some of your detail w/ the lighting. I also liked the bowl where it was in the first image lol, but that has nothing to do w/ this. Otherwise, I envy you and all like you that can do this stuff, I'm still teaching myself 3ds and can only dream of when I can make stuff like this - its brilliant! alias_marks
This may be one of the tutorials you already went through, but I find myself constantly going back to if for situations like this. http://www.aversis.be/extra_tutorials/vray_basic_material_settings_01.htm page 2 is really the page that helps address this caustics and vray issue. here's a quick snipit I have almost come to memorize I use it so much. " So to summarize: 1. If you use only object lights and Vraylights and you want caustics: - enable GI caustics - use good quality GI settings to make sure the caustics look sharp. 2. If you use max lights and you want the light to pass through refractive materials: - use the affect shadow option for a fake caustic effect - OR enable caustics in the caustics rollout and play with the settings for photon mapped caustics. 3. If you use Vraylights and you want photon mapped caustics: - Disable affect shadows - Disable GI caustics - Enable caustics in the caustics rollout and play with the settings."
