PGD
Hi folks Basically I want to create a render node, so what do I do? Install the full 3ds max from the cd? Is it the full instalation or part instalation? Register the same liecence? As its just a node, does it need registering again? Will that take the liecence away from my workstation So many questions...
PGD
anyone? I'm running Max 9 and Vray 1.5. I installed backburner onto the node and can see my render que. Unsure about the max installation. Then there is Vray to sort out too. I'm hopeless at IT
Mechadus
Its really easy to get it all up and running.. Once you have your network set up, install MAX on the node, then install Vray - Dont register / activate either one. Backburner installs with Max automatically (in version 7 and 8 anyway). Open the Manager.exe that is installed on your 'master/server' machine, then open Server.exe on your node. Go to edit -> General Settings, and in the dialogue that pops up, un-check 'automatic search', and enter the name, or IP address of your master computer in the text field. That should be it. You can open Monitor.exe on either computer, click the 'connect' button, and enter the master IP in the pop-up - YAY! If all you are doing is DR with Vray tho, dont bother with all the backburner stuff, just install MAX and Vray and your done -Nick
PGD
Hmmm, doesnt want to work this Max, backburner and Vray is installed on the node Opened the Server on the node, unchecked the 'automatic search' and typed in the IP address of the Master machine. Right so far? With Manager on the master machine open I.. Open the server on the node (with fingers and toes crossed) and a lovely Error appears saying: Unable to bind: The requested address is not valid in its context (0x2741) Is the application already running? Error starting UDP Server
Mechadus
wow - Thats an error I have never seen before... May be something having to do with your network settings maybe... We have 40 computers here at the office, and Basically I have found that more often than not its Microshaft Winblows causing the problem, rather than Backburner. I have found that backburner sometimes gets messed up if you dont have the manager app running before starting up the server apps - not sure why. You could try contacting Autodesk for some help, but its been my experiance they usually just say "huh, you broke it" and thats about it. My next steps would probably be to try some different stuff.. maybe enter your master computer name instead of the IP addresses, try the automatic search (I think that worked for me once), double check your network settings...... -Nick
PGD
Cheers Nick Your right, it was to do with the network settings, then access privilege's.... Its working on one machine now just RPC's to sort, map or something like that Thanks for the help
Mechadus
No problem - always glad to help... If your planning on adding any more machines to your network down the line, I would really recomend getting yourself set up with a server for all your libraries (RPCs, Images, Scene files, etc). It makes life SO much easier in the long run, and you really dont need anything special to make it work.. At home I have a pentium 2 with 256mb of ram that I use for my server... Cost a whopping $300 to get it up and running Happy rendering -Nick
PGD
Thats interesting. Here we have a couple of servers which I will use for librarys, RPC's etc but for home use, with say 2 nodes why wouldnt you use your main workstation as the server? Another minor question: I believe max and vray can have a maximun of 10 render nodes on one licence, correct? Now does that mean you can have a max number of 10 nodes rendering at any one time, or can I install max and vray on more than 10 machines but only use a max of 10 at any one time? Not that it matters too much as we only have half a dozen windows licences but for the future maybe...
manta
You have a maximum of 10 computers for DR (distributed rendering), but its unlimited for network rendering...
