Dan J
Hey everyone, I'm on Viz4 and I'm trying to get an object to glow using the lens effect-glow. I've tried to use the material channel, sub-object materials, and use the explicit map channel, but nothing seems to work to get the object to glow. Picking a light will glow, but not a box or any other object. Any help would be great. Thanks. Dan
M. Steadman
Hello Dan, I think there is a tutorial at CG;architect by Smoke 3d that may have the answer you're looking for. http://www.cgarchitect.com/resources/tutorials/smoke3d/tutorial16.asp Good luck
Dan J
M and all, I should be a little more specific. I'm trying to make an object (not a light source) glow using the "Rendering Effects-Lens Effect-Glow" which should be able to do with a map channel, but I can't seem to get it to work in Viz4. Any help would be great. Thanks. Dan
quizzy
I think you have to do this by using the object ID channel or G-buffer.
Dan J
Quizzy, That's what I thought and tried it, but nothing. When I had Max this was an easy thing to do, but in Viz I don't seem to get it to work as it's noted in the "help" files. A tutorial would great, if anyone knows of one for Viz. Dan J
Here is an screen image of what I have setup. http://www.cgarchitect.com/forum/filepush.asp?file=glow-setup.jpg If I'm completely off, show me the best way to set it up. Perhaps with a screen image post. That would be very helpful. Thanks.

Dan J
Huhhhhhhhhhhhh! I'm so dense sometimes. Sheesh. Right click on the object-object properties-G Buffer object channel set to 1 or Material editor-material assigned with material effect channel set to 1 (or under one of the map channels for more interesting effects), then in the rendering effects-glow element- options tab- images sources object or effects ID set to one of the above choices. Thanks for jogging my memory a bit. Dan
