jodestroy
just put composite material to your object... Try it with different colors....and then you will see where wich one goes.
Sawyer
If I recall you should be able to import with pen color value in cad lining up with mat id for a multi/sub object. I think at least it has been a while since I used viz
Arnel
In ADT: Select your window/door object right click and click entity display, check the box under attached, window/door style level then press edit display poperty button. Now you will be able to see what material id has been assigned to each subcomponent. Try to remember those mat id. In VIZ/MAX: Create a multisub-object material and reduce the number of materials according to the number of your object sub-components. Change the mat id to match the mat id preassigned by ADT then create your own material for each sub-component. Finally apply the material to your object. Note that in Max/Viz you can also see the the sub-component mat id by going to modify panel then press the plus sign beside VIZblock and click component. You can now see mat id assignment however this does not identify which mat id is assigned to what subcomponent. So it is still better to check it in ADT entity display.
