JPS
Does anyone know how to do easy and realistic water edges so that they match with the bump map? For instance this image web page has water and then when the water meets the edge of the seawall it looks like a razor sharp straight line. I know I can take it into PS and do some post production trick, but is there a way to do it in the software? Thanks. RGDS, J.
kid
Displacement mapping would do it. Using the same map for displacement as you are for bump, but Max/Viz displacement mapping is practically useless as it requires so many polygons (and RAM) to get satisfactory results. You could give it a try, but I'd do it photoshop if it were up to me.
JPS
Yes, displacement map would be the way to do it, but your right about the extra polygons been added. Right now the water is just one large plain (2 polygons)with a water bump map. What I was thinking of doing is just modifying the outer area of the plain around 1' in from the edge to add more polygons just to that area so that the displacement works only near the edge and dosent add to many polygons to the whole scene, but I wanted to see if anybody else had any better ideas. Anyone? RGDS, J.
kid
you could paint an opacity map to make the edge of the plane look like its not dead straight.
nisus
Tackle the place where the water hits the wall with some grunge/dirt map so you won't notice the seem anymore... This way, you won't add extra faces rgds nisus
