http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/64-bit for detail

In summary, a greater degree of precision in real numbers or larger integer numbers.

On PC's the ability to reference larger amounts of memory (disc and RAM).

Also faster processing on true 64 bit machines running true 64 bit software on a true 64 bit operating system.

In max, also the abililty to use geographic level coordinates (e.g 6 figure grid refs) without rounding errors giving problems to textures etc

Just stumbled upon this, Im currently tasked to start a render farm in the office, so I started my research. Will max files created in 64 bit openable in 32 bit? vice versa? I need to know what are the advantages/disadvantages/implications of a mixed cpu network.

Thanks in advance.

Can body tell what is the difference between 32 bit & 64 bit operating system? And the meaning of 32 bit and 64 bit in max version 9

the almost only adventage of MAx x64 is possiblity to work on very large scale scenes, you can rule over huge amount of polies, 10-20 000 000 is not mission impossible, anymore.

Ofcourse, you need 4GB of phisical ram at least for that.

x64 max has no limitiation about memory usege (about 16GB should be the limit, Im not shore)

But if you use old P4 3GHz, and 1-2GB there is no use of MAx x64, you should have at least 4GB or ram to feel its power.

OT:

MAx 9 x64 works very fine w/D3D graphic cards
