Hi firstly i am new to vray and max.

I downloaded some materials from http://www.vray-materials.de then when i load the .mat file from the material editer all the diffuse/bump maps etc get added where they should go but the actual preview sphere doesnt show the material, just grey. when i render it is plain. no texture or bump map etc. if i load the texture manually it goes on but not all the materials here come with the seperate jpeg textures etc.

am i doing something stupid?

Any help would be great

Are the maps actually loading, or is the name of the map just shown on the tab? Check to see if you can navigate to the map from the material editor. I've found that some of the materials from that site forget to include the maps.

When you use a material from someone else’s library the map paths will be pointed in the wrong direction. Hence Max doesn't know where to find them.

There are easier ways to fix this, but for efficiency of your computer and for the shear tidiness of it, have a look in the Maps panel in the material editor: Diffuse, Reflect..... Find the appropate bitmaps you will see the path will be pointed to someone else’s computer, just click on this, it should open in the right place, and just click on the right map.:D

Then resave the material so you will not have to do this again.

Good Luck
