Greg Steckler
As our little company of 3 persons grows, it is becoming obvious we need more sales, more work. At what point do you figure out you have got to hire someone to be salesman/account manager/marketing person? What do you really call this person? Where do you find him/her? And besides the obvious...what kind of qualifications/abilities do you look for?
Devin Johnston
You should hire someone to do your marketing and sales as soon as you can afford it; I'd look for someone with a marketing or business degree. Sales and marketing have always been my least favorite things to do; I think most of us feel the same way because it's not something we're really qualified to do. Having a professional who has some experience will make all the difference in the world and will take a lot of pressure off of you.
Ghan
I spent 5 years in Direct Business Sales and i can tell you... a degree isn't necessery. For the marketing bit i WOULD get someone with a degree. So the ideal candidate in my humble opinion would be: - degree in marketing; - experience in direct sales; - understanding of CG. Greg Steckler
It seems that most of the Architectural Rendering/Animation folks here on this Forum market to developers or architects who don't have a CG department. So I asked myself, "Who knows and talks to these people?" Ans: real estate people or bankers. So (since the real estate market is down right now and there are a lot of unemployed RE folks around) would you look for a sales/marketing person from this group? (With the other abilities you mentioned above)
