alfienoakes
Some may think so already, prior to the new release in Viz 2008, Max etc.. I went to a roll out of ADT 2008 (or Autocad Architecture as it now is) the other day, and saw MR's version that is included now, to replace Viz Render. I also saw some renders straight out of the box from Viz 2008, and have to say they were very good. Apparently, the new engine is much faster now, and standard materials come with loads of presets, ie, reflections etc.. The guy there was a Vray man, but felt that this new version of MR was a serious contender to it. I have not got Viz 2008 yet, but wondered what peoples views were on this, and has anyone seen similar results.. etc...?
Justin Hunt
Not having seen what is and isnt included in 2008 I cant say for sure, but can be done in Max9 and what I have seen in http://www.mymentalray.com , Vray is finalyu getting some serious competition. d.sign
Ok, here are some of my observatons that I put together in an article, those are however based on just some quick tests, lot more things still to investigate and explore... antialiasing as one very important for instance... but here is the link http://www.3dallusions.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=236&Itemid=74&PHPSESSID=01e1369fde7a2c113fa192d1f9e49afb
alfienoakes
Branko, Great article, very interesting. It will be good to see how it gets on in the latest releases of ADT etc.. and how people get on with it. The results looked good, but I dont think its about the end result so much, as you can produce the same effects with Vray. Its more about the speed of the renderer, and the ease of use of the settings etc.. I would imagine Vray users will carry on with Vray, and new users of Viz / max etc, will have a much better option than Scanline or radiosity finally... d.sign
I would agree, but as a Vray user, I am not so happy with the direction that it took in development, and if we have the option to choose (as max, viz, maya and xsi users) we may try take sometimes MR for certain situations... Ease of use is not MR strongest side, but from recently that is something you can override by using some preset settings... The speed depends on situation...
