mbowers
How many of you cats use an external harddrive? I've been tossing around dropping $200 for a NAS (network access storage) 500Gb hdd. and i'm conflicted as to whether i should spend the money for an internal (and possibly risk corruption) or go external. I have the room for expansion but am worried about possible corruption or malfunction. My Dell currently has a 160 Gb Seagate that is 94% full. I have a 30 gb external drive from my old college days that is full and i have my wifes laptop that i've started seeping files onto (we have a network connection). Any thoughts? Devin Johnston
I use external drives for backup but that's it, if it's information I need to access I get a fast internal drive.
ikinman
Drive failure is always a possibility with either internal or external drives. So a back up (mirroring) is essential, especially if you don't have a tape backup procedure in place. We have an external NAS, about 1.5 TB, which we use for backup. No real problems with it, though it's getting on in years, so we will need to upgrade soon.
