Graphics card in macbook.

Recommended Posts

My missus does 2d graphics needs a new mac. If she gets the macbook (not pro) then it only has a 64meg (shared) graphics card(!). To a PC buff like me, this sounds totally rubbish. Is the mac specification a different animal? Will she be able to run Photoshop on an attached (19" Samsung) monitor at a decent resolution with the puny card in the macbook, or will she have to stump up the bucks for a macbook pro?

Thanks in advance,

Tom.

Excellent news! As long as youre sure......I mean she does some quite intense 2d stuff with lots of transparencies and the mac says its native resolution on-screen is like 1280 / 800.....and she'll have my spare samsung 19" flatpanel........ Its so long since Ive done 2d on a bad card, I cant remember the performance.

Actually, Ill just go test it in the apple shop.

Good idea - if it's intense enough, and the GMA950 sucks enough, it could still be a problem I guess. But it would need to be some really intense graphics. I've got the 17" MBP Core Duo and the ATI x1600 in there is actually pretty good, I'm surprised they switched to nVidia (unless the nVidia card uses less power or something...)
