Guest nazcaLine
ok i received this huge file made by another guy to add some things, change textures, etc.and render the views. btw the file was poorly modeled, a nightmare of things with no name and useless and unnecesary polygons (i always promise myself to reject this kind of jobs and always finish taking them. shame on me). thing is i have to render 17 shots, including 2 panoramic views. it's about a big hotel complex near the ocean. problem is when i render the views, after some renders the program crashes. i see the task manager then and the full 2 gb ram are being used. waht can be the problem? what could i do? the message that appears in the crash says something like "vray asked for "x" memory but only "y" memory was available" i reboot the pc and then send a batch render of the 17 shots, and after 13 succesful renders it just crashed. my settings are pretty normal: irradiance low sttings, LC 800 samples, adaptive aa, reinhard color mapping, .01 qmc sampler, etc. some displacement around in several roofs. i have only a standard direct light as the sun with vray shadows, and environment 1.0 multiplier. what can be the problem? what can be causing this eormous usage of ram? my pc is new, intel core 2 duo 2.13 GHz , 2 gb ram, nvidia graphics card, etc. please help!!!! tayrona
Hi Eduardo, I had the same problem with a dining of 2.000 seats that I was working on last week. After serveral attempts, I had to convert the 2.000 chairs in instanced vray proxies, and other objects that were copied a lot in the scene. after doing so, I could render 14 images. could you describe the content of the scene (trees, or another heavy geometry), and explain if the crash is always in the same frame? or have you try to do it starting by the last view? and is always in number 13? (taking this job just show your passion for arch viz... dont be ashame!!)
Guest nazcaLine
hi thanks for the tip, tayrona...though i never used vray proxies before...i'll have to learn on the way. difficult to explain...first it crashed after 4 views...then after 13 views...looks like the more views i render non-stop, the ram burden rises up...geometry is really an issue. this guy who modeled had, f. ex, some 60 columns with 100 sides, and 5 height segments...!!!16 sides are more than enough, and even more in exterior views...and a ton of things like that. looks like i'll have to render the views 1 by 1, constantly checking the task manager...and rebooting when necessary to "clean" the ram (if that's what i'm doing in fact ). i can't think of anything else... lambros
displacement seems to be causing all problems in these cases. I have dropped using displacement on large projects. Try to switch it off (under Global settings), it should drop memory problems. If you are desperate on using displacement, you will have to consider a separate pass with matte material on non-displaced objects.
Guest nazcaLine
thanks for the advice.i'll turn off displacement for the panoramic views, but for the closer shots i'll definitely need it,it's a rustic roof so it needs that look. Eduardo
