archkre
I have very good look collections of Vray mat's, looking cool in mat. editor, but when I apply them, specially the 4 fundamental ones ( glass, anodized aluminum, white stucco and water) they look like crap! I use HDRI in environment reflexions , different combination of Vray light/sun with no success! What am I doing wrong? Thanks
AJLynn
They look fine in that image... if you had a background that has a lot of contrast, maybe an HDRI environment, so you could see highlights, I bet they'd look good.
jophus14
Same as AJLynn said. Reflective objects need something to reflect. By applying a HDR image or a bitmap into the environment slot, your glass, water and metal will look alot better.
archkre
I am sending you a sample, maybe you people can help me! It looks very dull!!! Thanks
Tommy L
Like the other guys said. If theres no objects or maps for the reflective materials to reflect, then they will look dull. From your render it just looks like theres a black background to reflect. If you want it to look realistic, use a background spherical map in the environment channel of the environment panel or the envro slot of the material. Or if you want it to look like a model in a studio, use a studio light map. Glass by its very nature is only a sum of its reflections and refractions. "I am sending you a sample, maybe you people can help me! It looks very dull!!! Thanks" quote This is a bit of a cop-out when you havn't even tried what the other guys have suggested! Sawyer
I looked over your file and I saw a few things that were pretty odd. One was that everything rendered blurry your aa filter was set to area with a value of almost 9. Also one of the materials used the architectural shaders which are meant for mr. I think that the materials are ok. The glass is fine but it has a refr int value of 50 which it doesn't need - 8 is fine. Also there seems to be something wrong with the glass object as it refracts a really strange shape. And as for the concrete it was just a speckle map I am not sure it would really read that well in your scene. You need to address the glass object before it will refract right. Now I hid your geo sphere and just rendered with a vray sun & sky. Its pretty basic.
archkre
Thanks Sawyer! What color mapping type did you use and what values? That issue color mapping + LWF discussion is giving me an awfull time! Besides, I don't get how the Override reflexion in environment @ vrayrender works! If I put a HDRI there, are my glasses going to reflect that and not the real entourage or what? Thank you
Sawyer
I put it at linear multiply and put everything to 1. I also put the bounce multipliers back to 1. Now I do have my system set to a LWF so my image will take that into account. So when I render I have the show sRGB colors option on. At my website I have an old tutorial for LWF that may or may not be useful. Its at the login ftp site with a password of vray. Its a .doc and it is outdated pre 1.45. Environment override only overrides the environment as it is set in the environ menu. It will not override the scene objects.
jophus14
Did you create your glass in another program such as SketchUp? Sometimes I get SU files and the geometry acts really weird when I import them into VIZ/Max. It's easier to just model it in Max rather then dealing with the headache of trying to correct some of these problems in other programs.
